Easter 2010

Our boys surprised me when they wanted to dye eggs this year. We skipped it last year and I thought maybe they were too grown up to do it anymore. They had fun mixing colors and writing secret messages on them. We did a whole batch of beautiful colored eggs. (Ryan had a migraine so he wore his sunglasses all night.)

Then the Easter Bunny came and hid a TON of candy filled eggs (thanks Tyler) and left a load of candy in each of the boys' baskets.
On Easter morning we made Resurrection Rolls and they were such hit we made them an instant tradition. So yummy.

Then we spent the rest of the Sunday eating jelly beans, chocolate bunnies, and marshmallow peeps and watching General Conference. And then Todd came home and everything was good.

Poor Ryan

This boy broke his collarbone again! He was running at his 4th track practice and got tripped up with another kid, flipped over him, and landed hard on his shoulder! He says he knew it was broken right away because he heard it crack! Gross. I picked him up and took him to the emergency room where they gave him some pain medicine, took x-rays, gave him a sling and an ice pack and sent him home. He had to keep his arm immobile for 4 to 6 weeks. No more track! And no P.E. And no trombone playing!
It's now been 4 weeks since he broke it and he has done such a good job following the doctor's orders. He is just now starting to play basketball, drive the lawn mower, and help with his jobs around the house (all with just one arm!) Ryan is an active kid and for him the weeks of inactivity are almost worse than the few days of pain. But he's doing great and will be back to his normal life in just a couple more weeks. I love this brave, happy, active boy.

Pinewood Derby Photo Finish

Every year, we feel a lot of pressure and stress due to the annual Cub Scout activity known as The Pinewood Derby. Our boys have almost always received the awards for "best paint job" or "best looking car" (code for "not so fast" and "so what if your wheels fell off?"). We have had one winning car, though, so we keep trying. This year, Justin did all the designing and painting. Ryan helped him cut it and shape it, but Justin did the sanding. Todd worked on the wheels and axels and alignment.

The night of the derby was fun. The pack sprang for a fancy track with an electronic finish line. This was an improvement over the old track with gaps between the sections which caused the cars to jump the track! Justin won the first 6 races! He was sure he was going to get the big trophy this year! Look!

But then he got beat in his next few runs so he came in 3rd place overall. And he got the award for ..... BEST PAINT JOB!! Way to go Justin!

Play It Again, Justin

Waaaaay back in February, Justin had a piano recital. He says he rushed it and made some mistakes and he was disappointed, but I thought he did a really good job. He played a Minuet. He's getting better and better and I'm so proud of him! And look how cute he is!
