Chef Ryan

This afternoon Ryan asked if he could make some cookies all by himself! We have baked many batches together and I knew he could do it so I left him to it and went downstairs (to watch the Olympics). He only had a couple of questions and before I knew it, he had the first cookie sheet in the oven. He was so proud!

Then he called me to come up and see what happened... his cookies melted! I have never seen this happen before!

They had turned into little piles of melted chocolate chips in a pan of carmelized sugar. (We scraped up some of it and it tasted very good! Ryan thought maybe he should make it on purpose some other time.) We double checked the recipe and Ryan realized that he only used 1/4 cup of flour, instead of 2 and 1/4 cups! We added more flour and baked up the rest of the batch with better results.

I'm sure Ryan will want to make cookies again soon - maybe they will turn out better next time. I'm sure he won't mess up the flour again!

With all the kids in our family that love to cook...at our next family gathering, we should let them all prepare a meal for us!! :)

Good Job Ryan!

At least his mistake was still edible! My sister was making cookies or something one time and instead of putting in 1 teaspoon of salt put in 1 cup! It was definitely not edible!
